Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Des Plaines, IL

Empower students to achieve their fullest potential by supporting those with visual impairments across multiple school sites in an itinerant capacity. In this dynamic, full-time contract role, you will work with students ranging from Pre-K through transition age, collaborating closely with educational teams, families, and support staff to deliver individualized vision services.

Your leadership within the Vision Related Services Department will be vital. You’ll mentor and coach new and returning staff, provide training on best practices, and advocate for necessary resources. Through practical guidance and problem-solving, you will help ensure equitable access to educational experiences for all students.

Qualifications:

• Active Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with an endorsement in teaching students with visual impairments
• Master’s degree in a related field
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in school-based settings
• Proven ability to mentor, train, and support colleagues
• Completion of required fingerprinting prior to start date
• Exceptional communication, organization, and advocacy skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver vision services directly to students across various schools within the district
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to vision services staff
• Collaborate with educational teams and families to develop and implement student-centered plans
• Advocate for and secure appropriate resources to enhance access to learning
• Support department leadership by problem-solving and implementing best practices
• Maintain accurate documentation of services provided
