Qualifications & Desired Experience
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven fluency
- Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings, especially with elementary-aged students, preferred
- Current applicable certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Ability to follow school policies and maintain confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with educators and staff
Responsibilities
- Provide interpreting services for a 5th-grade student in a classroom environment and during related school activities
- Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and staff to support full participation in educational and social contexts
- Clarify lesson content, instructions, and classroom discussions to ensure understanding
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to address student needs and progress
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting sessions in compliance with school and district policies
