Teacher of the Deaf in North Richland Hills, TX

Bring your expertise to a rewarding contract opportunity supporting young learners as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for 1st and 2nd graders. This full-time school-year position is based in a self-contained classroom at the elementary level. You’ll provide instruction tailored to students’ unique communication needs, working alongside a dedicated support team.

Qualifications & Skills

• Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility for certification/permit prior to start
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and/or spoken language methodologies as needed
• Knowledge of language acquisition and literacy development in Deaf/Hard of Hearing children
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Preferred: Experience in self-contained DHH classrooms, early elementary (K–2) literacy, RDSPD program familiarity, or bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct, specialized instruction in reading, writing, math, and other core subjects, adapted for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and aligned with grade-level TEKS
• Provide instruction using each child’s chosen communication modality, per the IEP
• Develop and implement IEPs in collaboration with the Coordinator and related providers
• Monitor, document, and report on student progress toward IEP goals
• Conduct assessments in language, literacy, and academics
• Partner with audiologists, SLPs, interpreters, and other team members to promote student success
• Maintain regular communication with families and ensure consistency with classroom expectations
• Create a classroom environment that supports visual learning and effective hearing assistive technology
• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district education policies
