Job Description
Make a meaningful difference supporting students’ independence and confidence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the vibrant Southeast Texas Coast area. This rewarding contract opportunity begins August 3, 2026 and runs through May 28, 2027, offering an impactful part-time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week within a supportive educational environment.
Utilize your specialized skills to address a pressing need in the region, where your expertise will enhance the mobility and daily living skills of students with visual impairments. Your guidance will empower students of varying ages to safely and effectively navigate school and community settings.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Current Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
- AVCREP certification or equivalent (required)
- Experience working in school-based or pediatric settings strongly preferred
- Must complete Texas fingerprinting requirements promptly if not already cleared
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to fostering student independence and goal achievement
Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized orientation and mobility instruction to students, with exact caseloads and age groups to be confirmed
- Conduct assessments and develop personalized instructional plans
- Collaborate with educators, families, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive student support
- Monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed to maximize outcomes
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with district and state guidelines
- Travel between assigned schools within the district (assignments TBD)
