Job Description
Step into a rewarding, full-time contract opportunity working weekdays in a supportive school environment. This position offers the chance to make a direct impact by serving as a dedicated paraprofessional for a student referred by the district to the School of the Blind, located in the vibrant area near Sunnyvale, CA. Your primary responsibility will be providing one-on-one support to a student with a complex profile, chiefly focused on autism support, while also being open to learning and applying vision impairment strategies as needed.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience as a paraprofessional in school settings, especially with students on the autism spectrum
- Patience and adaptability when supporting students with diverse, complex educational and behavioral needs
- Willingness to learn and implement vision impairment (VI) support techniques (prior VI experience is not required)
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with special education teams and classroom teachers
- Dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized support to the student throughout the school day
- Assist with academic, behavioral, and daily living needs under the direction of certified staff
- Collaborate with specialists and educators to promote the student’s independence and progress
- Monitor and document student goals, behaviors, and milestones
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom experience tailored to the student’s abilities
This contract covers the initial 60-day trial period for the student’s placement at the School of the Blind, with the potential for extended support depending on student needs.
