Job Description
Step into a highly supportive contract role serving elementary students as a Special Education Teacher for the upcoming school year. In this position, you’ll empower students in grades K-4 using a resource model that fuses both small group pull-out instruction and in-class support. Your expertise will help nurture academic skills while fostering social and emotional growth among a caseload of approximately 8-12 students.
This contract covers the entire 2026-2027 school year, operating Monday through Friday for full-time hours—35 hours per week. The structure includes a 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute unpaid breaks each day, ensuring a balanced schedule. All work will be performed onsite, creating meaningful connections with your students and colleagues.
The ideal background for this opportunity includes experience with resource or inclusion settings, and candidates with Orton Gillingham training or certification (SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent out-of-state certification encompassed by Illinois’ ELIS guidelines
- Previous experience as a Special Education Teacher supporting elementary age students
- Strong understanding of academic and social/emotional interventions
- Orton Gillingham or similar structured literacy training/certification preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and co-teaching support in general education settings
- Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress
- Collaborate with general education teachers and ancillary staff to provide comprehensive student support
- Maintain thorough documentation of student services and outcomes
