Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Arlington, TX

A rewarding contract opportunity awaits educators specializing in teaching children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This position focuses on full-time, full school-year instruction for 1st and 2nd graders, providing direct, individualized teaching across core academic subjects. You’ll be delivering instruction tailored to each student’s communication needs—whether that’s American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, total communication, or other modalities—as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This engaging role gives you your own self-contained classroom, enabling you to create a supportive, accessible, and technology-enhanced learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adapt and teach reading, writing, math, and other content areas aligned with grade-level standards for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students.
• Deliver instruction using the communication modality specified in each student's IEP.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals collaborating with coordinators, related service providers, and general educators.
• Administer, interpret, and report on formal/informal assessments related to language and academics.
• Monitor student progress, prepare progress reports, and communicate regularly with families.
• Work collaboratively with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other professionals.
• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and provide input regarding student placement, goals, and services.
• Maintain compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and district procedures.

Qualifications:

• Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to obtain before the start date.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Proficiency in ASL and/or oral communication methods as suited to students’ needs.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
• Understanding of language acquisition and literacy in DHH children.
• Preferred: Experience teaching in self-contained DHH settings, K–2 literacy, familiarity with RDSPD program requirements, and bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
