Step into an impactful role supporting student success as a Sign Language Interpreter in Northern Virginia. This full-time position focuses on providing one-on-one ASL interpretation for a 15-year-old student at an alternative educational setting. You’ll be a vital part of this student’s learning journey, helping to create an accessible and engaging classroom environment.

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Strong background interpreting in educational or youth settings
  • Current or eligible for VQAS Level III or a minimum 3.5 score on the EIPA (exact credential requirements to be confirmed)
  • Ability to quickly meet Virginia state credentialing, including Department of Social Services background check and TB testing
  • Genuine commitment to fostering communication for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students

Your day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate, age-appropriate ASL interpretation for one student throughout the school day in a classroom setting
  • Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and educational staff
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support the student’s academic and social integration
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times
  • Monitor assignments and adjust interpreting approach to suit evolving classroom activities

This is a contract role starting as soon as possible, continuing through late May 2027, based on the school schedule. You’ll work a steady 37.5-hour week on location, fostering a supportive learning environment for a high schooler who benefits from your specialized skills.
