Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Burleson, Texas

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting young learners as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in a full-time, extended school year contract role. You’ll provide direct instruction to 1st and 2nd grade students in a self-contained classroom, individualizing lessons in reading, writing, math, and other core subjects aligned with TEKS. Your expertise will make a true impact, using communication methods tailored by each student’s IEP—whether ASL, spoken language, or total communication.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized instruction in core academic subjects to deaf/hard of hearing students, adapting approaches for individual learning needs.
• Implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) alongside the RDSPD Coordinator and related service providers.
• Carefully track, document, and report student progress toward IEP goals each grading period.
• Administer and interpret both formal and informal assessments focused on language, literacy, and academic skills.
• Collaborate with a team that includes audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and interpreters to enhance each student’s development.
• Maintain open lines of communication with families about classroom progress and expectations.
• Optimize classroom environments to support accessible learning, utilizing specialized technology and ensuring strong language access.
• Participate actively in ARD/IEP meetings, training sessions, and staff development activities.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC–12) endorsement, or eligibility prior to start.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency in ASL and/or listening and spoken language methodology as required by the caseload.
• Comprehensive understanding of language acquisition and literacy development for deaf and hard of hearing children.
• Experience creating and implementing effective IEPs.
• Previous teaching experience in a self-contained DHH classroom and K–2 literacy highly preferred.
• Familiarity with RDSPD programs and bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are advantageous.
