As an LBS1 Special Education Teacher, you’ll guide a small group of 7–9 students in a self-contained Academic Life Skills classroom, providing specialized instruction and fostering growth in both academic and daily living skills.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement customized curricula and IEP goals that nurture both academic progress and essential life skills.
- Lead day-to-day instruction and provide attentive care tailored to each student’s individual abilities.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support learners with autism, Down syndrome, and diverse medical needs in a structured, inclusive environment.
- Oversee the activities of classroom support staff, ensuring a cohesive and effective team approach.
- Collaborate actively with related service providers, nursing personnel, and administrative staff to optimize each student’s education plan.
- Document progress, maintain IEPs, and facilitate team meetings to evaluate student achievements and set future goals.
- Establish positive, ongoing communication with families, keeping them engaged and informed about their child’s development.
Qualifications:
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related discipline.
- Experience working directly with students on the autism spectrum, Down syndrome, or who are medically fragile is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated strengths in behavior management, communication, and teamwork.
This contract position offers a consistent weekday schedule (Monday – Friday, 8:35 AM – 3:30 PM), allowing for work-life balance while making an invaluable difference in students’ lives.
