Job Description

This full-time, contract position focuses on providing specialized instruction for students with disabilities, ensuring their growth and success as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role fosters close partnerships with fellow educators, related service providers, administrators, and families—integrating academic, social, and emotional supports.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement (EL endorsement a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related discipline
- Prior experience in a middle school setting is preferred but not required
- Proficiency in communicating and collaborating with diverse teams
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt instruction for students with a variety of learning needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver standards-based instruction tailored to students’ IEP goals and accommodations
- Maintain timely and compliant special education documentation
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to adjust instructional approaches
- Collaborate daily with general educators and support staff to facilitate inclusive learning
- Communicate effectively with families, participate in IEP meetings, and foster a positive rapport
- Establish a supportive and structured classroom environment
- Address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students
- Engage in professional development, team meetings, and contribute to district goals
- Take on additional duties as assigned by administration
Physical Demands:
- Regularly walk, stand, bend, and navigate the classroom
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds if necessary
- Effective verbal and written communication required
