This contract role runs the full 2026–2027 academic year and focuses exclusively on teaching in a self-contained Life Skills program—standard resource room or general case management backgrounds are not the match for this position. You'll play a pivotal role in empowering students to gain functional academics, daily living proficiency, and personal independence as they prepare for life beyond graduation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction centered on functional academics, daily living, community engagement, and personal independence
- Manage and foster a nurturing, inclusive Life Skills classroom environment
- Oversee and provide guidance to classroom paraprofessionals
- Write, implement, and track individualized education plans (IEPs), transition plans, and data-driven functional goals
- Ensure successful transition planning, emphasizing post-secondary pathways and life readiness
Candidate Qualifications:
- Active State Special Education Teaching License
- Substantial recent experience managing a high school Life Skills or similar self-contained classroom
- Demonstrated expertise developing and executing transition plans and adaptive programming for high school students
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
