Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Keene, California
Job Description
A rewarding contract opportunity is available for a skilled professional experienced in working with visually impaired students. This position is ideal for individuals who are Braille fluent and passionate about empowering learners. As a one-on-one support for a high school male student, you will make a meaningful impact by helping him develop essential Braille literacy skills throughout the 26/27 school year.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Braille; certified Braillists, paraprofessionals, or educators for the visually impaired are encouraged to apply
- Previous experience teaching Braille to students with unique learning needs
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet low-cognition learning profiles
- Comfortable working one-on-one with high school students
- Patient, flexible, and creative approach to instruction and support
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized Braille instruction tailored to the student’s cognitive level and needs
- Assist the student in developing basic and advanced Braille literacy, including reading and writing
- Implement educational strategies to reinforce learning and promote independence
- Collaborate with educational staff to align instruction with the student’s IEP and goals
- Track and report on student progress throughout the academic year
- Offer daily encouragement, positive reinforcement, and support
This contract runs from August 13, 2026, to June 11, 2027, at 30 hours per week. You’ll have the chance to guide a student’s educational journey and make a tangible difference in their life.
