Job Description
Step into a rewarding contract position supporting students with visual impairments near Arlington Heights, IL. This on-site role is ideal for a dedicated professional—either a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)—who is ready to step in and make an immediate impact following a recent vacancy.
You’ll play a crucial part in ensuring continuity of services for students, developing individualized plans and instructional strategies that empower learners to reach their fullest potential. Your passion and expertise will help maintain stability for students and staff during a critical transition period.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
- Previous experience working in a school setting with students who are visually impaired strongly preferred
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, families, and educational teams
- Deep understanding of adaptive technologies and curriculum modification
- Ability to provide both direct instruction and consultative services
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction and support tailored to students’ unique visual needs
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop IEP goals, and document student progress
- Foster independence and confidence through skill building, orientation, and mobility training
- Advocate for student access to general education curriculum and school activities
- Partner effectively with teachers, counselors, and other specialists
- Support parents and staff with resources, strategies, and training as needed
