Job Description
Step into a vital role supporting young learners as a Reading Specialist and Library Media professional for grades K-2. This full-time contract position runs from August 17 through May 27, 2027, and is dedicated to providing onsite literacy and library guidance at the early elementary level. As an integral part of a school-based learning team, you'll cultivate foundational reading skills, inspire a love for books, and offer individualized learning support tailored to each grade.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsements.
- Prior experience in curriculum development and effective instructional methods.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver specialized reading instruction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication for engaging with students, colleagues, and families.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with K-2 faculty to design and implement effective library and reading programs.
- Guide students in developing early literacy abilities using proven strategies and interventions.
- Oversee the library media center, fostering a welcoming environment that encourages exploration and reading for pleasure.
- Offer targeted learning support, addressing individual and small group needs.
- Maintain organized records, track student progress, and communicate updates to staff and guardians.
- Stay current on best practices in reading instruction and library media services.
