This contract position focuses on first and second grade students, providing a unique opportunity to facilitate both academic growth and language development in a collaborative, resource-rich setting.
Key Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to secure certification/permit before beginning.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or expertise in listening and spoken language methodologies, as appropriate for student needs.
- Understanding of language acquisition and literacy development for deaf and hard of hearing children.
- Prior experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Preferred: Classroom experience with early elementary students and self-contained DHH settings, familiarity with RDSPD program and compliance, and bilingual English/Spanish.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct, specialized instruction in reading, writing, math, and core content, adapting curriculum to meet grade-level standards and student needs.
- Utilize the communication mode specified in each student’s IEP, whether ASL, spoken language, total communication, or another modality.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Assess and document student progress, preparing regular reports and participating in ARD/IEP meetings.
- Coordinate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and interpreters to optimize student access to language and learning.
- Foster a classroom environment centered on language access, visual learning, and effective technology use.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state education requirements.
