Teacher of the Deaf in Crowley, TX

Empower young learners who are deaf or hard of hearing to reach their fullest potential in a dynamic elementary school setting. This contract position focuses on providing full-time, full-school-year specialized instruction to 1st and 2nd-grade students, using tailored communication modalities to meet each child’s unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging instruction in reading, writing, math, and core subjects, aligned with grade-level TEKS and adapted for deaf/hard of hearing learners.
• Use each student’s preferred communication modality, such as ASL, spoken language, or total communication, per their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Design, implement, and update IEPs in collaboration with support staff, ensuring legal and district compliance.
• Assess, monitor, and document student progress toward IEP goals; prepare progress reports for each grading period.
• Collaborate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and related service professionals to promote student access and language development.
• Maintain open and ongoing communication with families about student achievement and communication growth.
• Sustain a classroom environment that prioritizes language access, visual learning, and proper acoustics, including appropriate use of technology (FM systems, sound field systems).
• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, providing expertise on best practices and student needs.
• Stay current with required trainings and professional development.

Qualifications:

• Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification or permit by start date.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Demonstrated skills in American Sign Language and/or spoken language instruction, as appropriate.
• Strong knowledge of language and literacy development specific to deaf and hard of hearing children.
• Experience creating and executing effective IEPs.

Preferred Experience:

• Previous work in a self-contained DHH classroom.
• Early elementary (K–2) literacy strategies.
• Familiarity with Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) structures.
• Bilingual English/Spanish abilities.
