Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter supporting the educational journey of a 15-year-old student. This full-time position takes place in a specialized school environment near Fredericksburg, VA, offering the chance to work on-site and foster one-on-one communication and learning.
Role Overview:You’ll be fully dedicated to working with one student, providing essential ASL interpreting services throughout the school day. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a direct, observable impact, helping ensure equal access to education within a supportive academic setting.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language required
- Experience working as an ASL Interpreter in a school setting preferred
- Anticipated requirement: VQAS Level III or a minimum 3.5 EIPA score (final guidance pending)
- Ability to pass a background check with the Virginia Department of Social Services
- TB test required for state compliance
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism working with diverse students and staff
Principal Duties:
- Deliver accurate ASL interpretation for all classroom activities, discussions, and peer interactions
- Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to ensure all academic and social communication needs are met
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional codes of ethics
- Adapt interpreting style to fit a variety of educational and developmental situations
- Participate as needed in meetings relating to student progress or accommodations
The contract runs through the end of May 2027, with a weekly commitment of 37.5 hours at a single campus. This setting allows you to build a meaningful connection with your student and school community.
