Job Description
The Neurology Department at our organization is on the lookout for a faculty member to join the Epilepsy Division, led by Dr. Page B. Pennell, Chair of Neurology, and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Rajasekaran, Chief of the Epilepsy Division. Candidates should have completed a minimum of two years in an epilepsy fellowship and possess substantial experience with adult patients, particularly those facing drug-resistant epilepsy. An MD or equivalent degree is required, along with board certification in both Neurology and Epilepsy, and the ability to secure an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license. While prior experience or a keen interest in education, genetics, or clinical trials is preferred, it is not mandatory.

About the Neurology Department and Epilepsy Division
- A new 10-bed, self-contained adult Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is expected to open in early 2025.
- The Epilepsy Division offers comprehensive services for adults with epilepsy. Together with Pediatric Epilepsy, our Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is recognized as a level 4 epilepsy center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC).
- This center is a collaborative effort that combines resources from our organization, UPMC, and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
- Research funding for clinical, basic, data science, and translational studies has been steadily increasing, with over $25 million in research support received in FY25.
- Established in 1986, the department provides national and regional referral and consultative services to Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and beyond.
- Clinical services include outpatient clinics, EEG, continuous video-EEG monitoring across the UPMC network, and specialized clinics for functional seizures, responsive neurostimulation (RNS), women's epilepsy, and multidisciplinary evaluations for epilepsy surgery candidates.
- Research at the Epilepsy Center has led to the development of numerous new antiseizure medications, innovative presurgical evaluation methods, improved surgical outcomes for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, advancements in intracranial EEG signal processing, and enhanced treatment options for women with epilepsy during their reproductive years.
- The Neurology Department has received the NINDS UE5 grant to support research training for residents and fellows in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neuropathology.
