Job Description
Embark on a meaningful contract opportunity supporting student learning as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter in Northern Virginia. This onsite position invites you to work 1:1 with a 15-year-old student at an alternative education setting, providing essential communication access through American Sign Language. The assignment spans from the immediate start date through late May 2027, offering a consistent 37.5-hour workweek at a single school location.
Key Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language required
- VQAS Level III or a 3.5+ EIPA score preferred (pending final determination)
- Previous experience as an educational ASL interpreter strongly desired
- Must be willing to initiate the Virginia Department of Social Services background check immediately
- Up-to-date TB test required as per state regulations
- Ability to engage, motivate, and effectively interpret for high school-aged students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 ASL interpretation services for a 15-year-old student, adapting to classroom and school environments
- Accurately convey spoken language to ASL and vice versa, fostering understanding and inclusion
- Collaborate with educators and school support staff to address student’s language and learning needs
- Uphold confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards within educational settings
- Ensure compliance with all school district and state credentialing requirements
