Job Description

Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school in Wigan to recruit an experienced Attendance Officer for a temp-to-perm position starting in September.This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised individual with previous school-based attendance experience to join a dedicated pastoral and administrative team. The school is seeking someone who can quickly integrate into the role, confidently manage attendance processes, and help drive improvements in student attendance and punctuality.Your new roleAs Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting student welfare and ensuring attendance procedures are followed effectively. Working closely with pastoral staff, senior leaders, students and parents, you will help monitor attendance, identify concerns, and implement strategies to improve overall attendance rates.Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing daily attendance processes and monitoring student absence and punctuality
  • \n
  • Contacting parents and carers regarding unexplained absences
  • \n
  • Updating and maintaining accurate attendance records
  • \n
  • Producing attendance reports for leadership teams and external agencies
  • \n
  • Identifying attendance trends and escalating concerns where appropriate
  • \n
  • Supporting attendance meetings with parents and carers
  • \n
  • Working closely with pastoral teams to improve student attendance outcomes
  • \n
  • Ensuring compliance with attendance legislation and school policies
  • \n
  • Liaising with external agencies, including Education Welfare Officers, where required
  • \n
  • Using school management systems to record and analyse attendance data
  • \n

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer, Attendance Administrator or within a similar attendance-focused role in a school
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of school attendance procedures and safeguarding responsibilities
  • \n
  • Experience using SIMS, Arbor or similar school management systems
  • \n
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • \n
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • \n
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally
  • \n
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and supporting student outcomes
  • \n
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Hays
  • \n
