My client, a leading global financial technology organisation, is looking for a Development Team Lead to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for delivering business-critical client connectivity and trading technology solutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically hands-on leader who enjoys balancing software engineering with people management. You'll lead a talented team of developers while remaining actively involved in the design and development of high-performance Java applications used within fast-paced financial markets. Alongside engineering, you'll play a key role in mentoring the team, influencing technical direction and working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  Lead, mentor and develop a team of Software Engineers through coaching, appraisals and technical guidance

\n
• \n

  Remain hands-on, designing and developing robust Java applications within a high-availability trading environment

\n
• \n

  Drive technical excellence, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient and maintainable

\n
• \n

  Work closely with Product Managers, Architects, QA and business stakeholders to deliver complex technology initiatives

\n
• \n

  Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape the future direction of the platform

\n
• \n

  Support production systems, troubleshooting complex technical issues when required

\n
• \n

  Oversee software releases and collaborate with operational teams to ensure smooth deployments

\n
• \n

  Champion engineering best practices, code quality and continuous improvement across the team

\n
• \n

  Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture

\n

Skills & Experience

\n
• \n

  Proven experience leading and developing software engineering teams

\n
• \n

  Strong commercial Java development experience within enterprise environments

\n
• \n

  Previous experience working on trading, capital markets or financial services platforms

\n
• \n

  Good commercial knowledge of the FIX Protocol

\n
• \n

  Experience building and deploying applications within AWS

\n
• \n

  Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles and Agile delivery

\n
• \n

  Experience using Git-based version control

\n
• \n

  Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders

\n
• \n

  Comfortable operating in a hands-on technical leadership role

\n

Desirable Experience

\n
• \n

  Python or other Scripting languages

\n
• \n

  SQL and relational database technologies

\n
• \n

  CI/CD and DevOps tooling such as Jenkins, Maven or Ansible

\n
• \n

  Observability and monitoring platforms such as Grafana

\n
• \n

  Messaging technologies such as Solace

\n
• \n

  Experience working within SAFe environments

\n
• \n

  Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools
