Job Description
Empower students with special communication needs by bringing your expertise as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to a dynamic, full-time contract opportunity. This onsite, itinerant role is based near Des Plaines, IL, serving students across a middle school and two elementary campuses. You'll deliver high-impact educational support, create accessible learning environments, and foster self-advocacy skills in collaboration with dedicated school teams.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) endorsement is required
- Proven experience in teaching or supporting school-aged deaf and hard of hearing learners
- Strong ability to collaborate with general and special education staff
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
- Passion for equity and inclusion in educational settings
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services as an itinerant teacher across multiple schools
- Develop and adapt curriculum and instructional resources to meet IEP goals
- Assess students’ needs and document progress in compliance with state and federal requirements
- Facilitate access to appropriate assistive technology and classroom accommodations
- Offer guidance to teachers, staff, and families on deafness and hearing loss
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary conferences, and professional development
You will have the opportunity to build meaningful student relationships and witness their growth and achievement throughout the school year. The established schedule runs full-time from August 11, 2026, through May 24, 2027.
