Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M) - Portland, Texas

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) in a vibrant educational environment near the Southeast Texas coast. This part-time role—approximately 20 hours per week—responds to a significant need, helping students gain essential mobility skills for greater independence and access. You’ll work across one or more campuses with a focus on K-12 students; specific caseload details will follow an upcoming planning meeting.

Preferred candidates have a passion for empowering students with visual impairments, a collaborative approach to working with school teams, and the required state credentials to provide high-quality support from day one.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid and active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
• AVCREP certification (or similar, as applicable)
• Experience serving students in K-12 educational settings preferred
• Up-to-date fingerprinting per Texas state requirements, or willingness to promptly complete this process

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct individualized assessments to develop and deliver orientation and mobility instruction
• Provide direct services to students to foster safe travel skills in school and community environments
• Collaborate with special education and district teams to create and implement effective service plans
• Maintain accurate records and participate in IEP meetings as needed
• Travel between assigned campuses (number of sites to be confirmed)
