Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Vallejo, California

Help support students’ academic journeys by providing specialized instruction as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This contract opportunity centers on working part-time in a dynamic educational environment, contributing your expertise and compassion to empower learners.

As the designated TVI, you will work approximately 8 hours per week (0.2 FTE), collaborating with educators and families to adapt curriculum, develop individualized strategies, and foster inclusion for students with visual impairments. Your insights and advocacy will play a pivotal role in shaping accessible classroom experiences and enhancing student confidence.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairments (TVI) or eligibility to obtain
• Proven experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in educational settings
• Strong skills in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to students’ unique needs
• Familiarity with assistive technology and accessible instructional materials (e.g., Braille, large print, audio resources)
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct and consultative services to visually impaired students in accordance with IEP goals
• Create, modify, and implement lesson plans utilizing adapted materials and technology
• Partner with general education teachers to design accessible classroom activities and assessments
• Provide training and recommendations on assistive tools, accommodations, and best practices
• Monitor progress through consistent data collection and feedback, adjusting instruction as needed
• Engage with families and multidisciplinary teams to foster comprehensive student support
