Exciting opportunities are available for Special Education Teachers seeking a dynamic contract role for the 2026–2027 school year across Lehigh and Carbon Counties. Multiple itinerant substitute positions will support specialized programs in diverse classroom settings. Assignments vary and teachers may rotate between classrooms or locations, covering vacancies, extended leaves, or providing long-term support as needed.

This position requires flexibility and adaptability, as you’ll engage with students who have a broad range of academic, behavioral, communication, and developmental needs. Candidates must be able to commute within about 35 minutes of assigned sites.

Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Pennsylvania Special Education certification is required for most assignments
  • Prior experience teaching in special education settings
  • Demonstrated skill in implementing IEP goals and specialized instruction
  • Ability to provide strong classroom management and behavioral support
  • Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals, related service staff, and families
  • Proven flexibility in supporting multiple classrooms and programs
  • Preferred backgrounds include: autism support, emotional support, behavioral health, support for multiple disabilities, or experience in intermediate unit/specialized school environments

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction consistent with IEPs
  • Support diverse classroom environments, including autism, emotional support, and functional skills settings
  • Utilize ABA-informed strategies, behavioral intervention plans, and trauma-informed practices where needed
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to best support student learning
  • Build positive relationships and effective communication with students’ families
