Make a meaningful difference for students with visual impairments by providing essential educational and mobility support in a dynamic school environment. This contract role is located near Elgin, IL, and requires a skilled professional to step in immediately following the recent departure of the on-site TVI. Your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) will foster independence, inclusion, and academic achievement for students who need your guidance.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Credentials or significant experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering adaptive strategies and differentiated instruction for students with visual impairments, preferably in a school setting.
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to students’ specific visual, academic, and mobility needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with instructional staff, families, and support services.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative educational services to students with visual impairments across grade levels.
  • Conduct assessments to determine educational and mobility needs, and regularly update student progress.
  • Teach orientation and mobility skills, enabling students to navigate campus and classroom environments safely and independently.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to optimize inclusion and access to the general curriculum.
  • Maintain timely documentation and participate in IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with all relevant educational laws and best practices.
