Job Description
Make a meaningful impact in education as a Mental Health Specialist for the 2025/2026 school year. This contract opportunity, located near Lake Orion, MI, involves supporting general education students at both the elementary and high school level. As a vital part of the educational community, you’ll provide direct and group social-emotional support, as well as partner with school teams to develop and implement effective behavior and positive classroom programs.
Your expertise will contribute to a supportive environment that nurtures students’ well-being. Flexibility and collaboration are key, as you’ll also help deliver professional learning opportunities and respond to evolving student and staff needs.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a master’s degree (no bachelor’s-level candidates accepted)
- Active licensure through LARA as a social worker, psychologist, marriage and family therapist, or professional counselor (see Michigan LARA guidelines for full list)
- Acceptable credentials include:
- Licensed master’s level psychologist or a limited licensed master’s psychologist under supervision
- MDE credentialed master’s level school psychologist
- Licensed master’s level social worker, or school social worker (including those under LMSW supervision)
- Licensed marriage and family therapist, professional counselor, or school counselor (with qualifying credentials such as SCL, NT endorsement, PSCC, or TSCL with LARA application in progress)
- Professional experience in school-based mental health strongly preferred
Responsibilities:
- Provide social-emotional and behavioral intervention, both 1:1 and in small groups
- Collaborate with educators to implement positive behavior supports and classroom strategies
- Offer professional learning sessions for staff
- Document progress and participate in student support and IEP meetings as needed
