Qualifications & Desired Background:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
• Current certification through EIPA, RID, or an equivalent recognized body
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within educational settings
• Strong interpersonal communication skills to interact positively with students, staff, and families
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions
• Adaptability to different age groups, classroom styles, and instructional activities

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and impartial interpretation between spoken English and ASL for students in classroom and school-related activities
• Collaborate closely with educators to ensure full access to curriculum and information
• Support students’ participation in school events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
• Employ appropriate interpreting techniques for individual student needs
• Participate in IEP meetings and help develop strategies for effective communication access
• Maintain timely and thorough documentation as required by school policies
• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for deaf and hard of hearing students
