Job Description
Make a meaningful impact by supporting students and educators as a Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant school setting. This full-time, contract role provides an opportunity to leverage your sign language expertise to enhance communication and learning for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. You’ll become an essential part of a dedicated team, working closely with teachers, staff, and students to foster an inclusive environment.
Starting August 5th, 2026, and continuing through June 4th, 2027, this position offers a rewarding experience for those passionate about education and accessibility.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina SLI certification
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings strongly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to various classroom environments and student needs
- Commitment to confidential and ethical interpreting practices
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
- Collaborate with educational teams to support student access to the general curriculum
- Assist with preparation of instructional materials as needed
- Maintain accurate records of services provided
- Foster a positive, supportive atmosphere for students and school personnel
