Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

Your new companyYou will be working for a well-established ecological consultancy that provides a range of specialist services including ecological surveys, impact assessments, biodiversity net gain (BNG), habitat management and Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) support. Working across infrastructure, residential and commercial development projects, the organisation partners with developers, planners and local authorities to deliver practical environmental solutions while promoting positive conservation outcomes.Your new roleAs an ECoW, you will provide on-site ecological support to archaeological trial digging contractors, ensuring works are undertaken in line with ecological legislation, planning conditions, licences, and project environmental requirements. This will be a full-time contract running from September 2026 - September 2027. The project is a linear project between Cambridge and Oxford.Responsibilities may include:

• Conducting ecological site inspections and toolbox talks.
\n
• Monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with ecological constraints.
\n
• Advising site teams on protected species, habitats, and mitigation measures.
\n
• Providing ecological supervision during sensitive works.
\n
• Recording site observations and producing concise reports.
\n
• Working closely with environmental managers, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve ecological issues effectively.
\n
• Supporting compliance with environmental management plans and permit requirements.
\n

What you'll need to succeed

\n
• Previous experience working as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).
\n
• CSCS / Highways Passport / PTS are desirable
\n
• Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and protected species mitigation.
\n
• Experience providing ecological advice within active construction environments.
\n
• Ability to communicate effectively with site teams and project stakeholders.
\n
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across sites.
\n
• Membership of CIEEM is desirable.
\n
• Protected species survey licences would be desirable but are not essential.
\n
