Engage Education is recruiting an Apprentice SEND Teaching Assistant to work at a Specialist School in Boston Spa, supporting pupils aged 5–19 with a range of complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) while completing a fully funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.

\n

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an outstanding specialist setting, working alongside experienced teachers and therapists to help every pupil achieve their full potential.

Your Responsibilities

\n
    \n
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils throughout the school day
  • \n
  • Support children and young people with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex communication needs and physical disabilities
  • \n
  • Encourage communication using visual supports, Makaton, PECS and other communication strategies where appropriate
  • \n
  • Help pupils develop independence, confidence and essential life skills
  • \n
  • Support sensory regulation and create positive learning experiences
  • \n
  • Assist with personal care where required, maintaining pupils' dignity at all times
  • \n
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • \n
  • Support pupils in classroom activities, sensory sessions, outdoor learning and enrichment opportunities
  • \n
  • Help implement individual targets outlined in EHCPs to enable every pupil to succeed
  • \n

Requirements

  • Commitment to completing an 11-month apprenticeship
  • \n
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade 4/C or above preferred
  • \n
  • Not currently enrolled on another government-funded qualification
  • \n
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn and excellent communication skills
  • \n
