SEND English Teacher

Engage Education is working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist school in the East Grinstead area to recruit an English Teacher for a permanent position starting in September 2026. A later start date, including January 2027, may be considered for the right candidate.

The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties and disrupted education. As the successful English Teacher, you will:

• Deliver engaging, creative and differentiated English lessons across the secondary age range.
\n
• Inspire a love of reading, writing and literature while preparing students for GCSE and other accredited qualifications.
\n
• Adapt teaching to meet the individual learning needs of pupils with SEMH and additional SEND.
\n
• Create a calm, safe and nurturing classroom where students feel supported to succeed.
\n
• Monitor progress through effective assessment and provide meaningful feedback to help students achieve their potential.
\n
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and families to support students' academic, social and emotional development.
\n
• Play an active role in promoting positive behaviour, resilience and engagement in learning.
\n

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
\n
• Experience teaching English within a secondary setting.
\n
• A strong understanding of the secondary English curriculum.
\n
• Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
\n
• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
\n
• An understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice or SEND (desirable but not essential).
\n
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive.
\n

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers as well as ECTs. Previous experience working within a specialist setting is advantageous, but teachers with mainstream experience and a genuine interest in SEMH are encouraged to apply.
