The position of Faculty Associate involves collaborating with the Program Director (PD), Program Manager (PM), and Department Chair (DC) to lead, teach, supervise, and plan for the educational initiatives within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This role also encompasses the care provided at our community outreach clinic, the Women’s Health Center (WHC), with an emphasis on enhancing the clinical learning environment for students, residents, and medical staff to meet the needs of the department, hospital, and community.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties

  • Engage in clinical practice under the guidance of the PD.

    • Establish solo practice sessions based on provider availability and access.

  • Dedicate clinical practice time to directly supervise advanced practice professionals (APP), residents, and oversee medical student patient care activities, including:

    • Supervision and educational engagement of providers, residents, and medical students at the Women’s Health Center.

    • Supervision and educational involvement of residents and medical students in the Beginnings Maternity Center, including OB Triage and Labor & Delivery.

    • Supervision and educational activities of residents and medical students in operating rooms at THRHMC and associated sites, including emergency and inpatient units.

  • Ensure the delivery of services meets the highest standards of patient care and safety.

  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.

  • Encourage quality improvement and patient safety initiatives:

    • Lead learner and individual projects focused on quality and patient safety.

Scholarly Activities

  • Exhibit a strong interest in research, presentations, and publications:

    • Collaborate with the PD on programmatic research initiatives.

    • Assist the PD in securing grant funding for departmental, programmatic, and individual research efforts.

    • Oversee resident research activities.

  • Participate in the following under the PD's direction:

    • Departmental undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), and continuing medical education (CME) programs.

    • Support interprofessional education, collaboration, and service (IPECS) initiatives.

Administrative Duties

  • Conduct all activities in alignment with our organization’s Culture of Excellence.

  • Work collaboratively under the guidance of the AC/PD and DC.

  • Familiarize yourself with relevant Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) common program requirements, including the six core competencies:

    • Patient Care

    • Professionalism

    • Medical Knowledge

    • Interpersonal and Communication Skills

    • Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

    • Systems-Based Practice

  • Stay informed about relevant OB/GYN residency committee (RC) program requirements.

  • Engage in all pertinent THRHMC GME meetings and activities.

  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the PD and PM.

  • Participate in regular resident evaluations as directed by the PD.

  • Engage in cross-departmental collaboration and planning.

  • Work harmoniously with Medical Staff and other hospital personnel.

  • Serve on relevant Medical Staff and Hospital committees as directed by the DC or PD.

  • Assume leadership and supervisory roles as assigned by the DC or PD (e.g., Director of Outpatient Services, Student Clerkship Director).

  • Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and all applicable rules and regulations.

  • Collaborate with the DC & AC/PD to ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and regulations by all residents and medical students.

  • Mentor and support residents, aiding their transition from Chief Residents to their chosen career paths.

  • Contribute to residency staff development planning.

  • Participate in residency staff recruitment and retention efforts.

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Assist the PD in the efficient use of resources to manage the residency program budget effectively.

  • Educate residents on the cost-effective use of resources.

  • Engage in program development, including facility planning and evaluating program delivery efficiency.

Career Development

  • Encouragement will be provided for the faculty associate to further develop any subspecialty or unique skills that will enhance their career and contributions to the residency and department.

  • The faculty associate will be supported in developing and implementing an independent research project.

QualificationsGeneral Requirements

  • Possession of a Pennsylvania Medical License.

  • ACOG Board Certification or eligibility in general Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  • Membership in ACOG and other relevant specialty organizations as applicable.
