Both roles require advanced skills in sign language, well beyond basic letter spelling and signing, to support students' communication and learning success.
Your role will involve collaborating with classroom teachers, assisting students who are deaf or hard of hearing, and fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. As a paraprofessional, your contributions will help shape positive academic and social outcomes for students in your care.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in sign language beyond standard fingerspelling
- Experience working with children, particularly in educational settings
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to adapt and respond to diverse student needs
- High school diploma or GED required; additional relevant coursework or certifications a plus
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students needing ASL assistance
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers using advanced ASL
- Help implement individualized education plans under teacher supervision
- Assist with classroom activities and reinforce lesson content
- Support a positive, inclusive environment that empowers all learners
