A large, nationally recognized organization is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join its Shared Services team in Houston. This is a high-volume, fast-paced payroll environment supporting both union and non-union employees across multiple states. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who thrives in a dynamic setting, adapts quickly to change, and takes ownership of their work. The client is looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to hit the ground running.

Key Responsibilities
- Process high-volume weekly, biweekly, and semimonthly payrolls accurately and on schedule.
- Support payroll processing through imports from timekeeping systems, spreadsheet uploads, and manual entry.
- Reconcile payroll data and research discrepancies prior to payroll transmission.
- Process overtime, bonuses, incentive payments, and taxable fringe benefits.
- Maintain employee payroll records including direct deposit setup, tax elections, and garnishments.
- Calculate and process manual checks when needed.
- Support union payroll administration and maintain related documentation and records.
- Research and resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and HR partners.
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, company policies, and internal controls.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll information.
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years of recent payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment.
- Experience processing payroll for large employee populations preferred.
- Multi-state payroll experience required; Canadian payroll exposure is highly preferred.
- Experience with gross-to-net payroll processing strongly preferred.
- Union payroll experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of garnishment processing, payroll taxes, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency working with payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Multi-state payroll including California employees.
- Payroll systems such as ADP, UKG Workforce Management, or similar enterprise payroll platforms.
- Experience supporting both union and non-union employee populations.
- Strong reconciliation and payroll balancing experience.
