The Role
As a Lead Maintenance Technician, you'll provide hands-on technical leadership while supporting the Maintenance Manager with daily maintenance operations. You'll help prioritize repairs, coordinate preventive maintenance activities, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure repairs are completed safely and efficiently.
This position combines advanced mechanical and technical skills with leadership responsibilities and serves as a key resource for the maintenance team.
What You'll Do
Provide daily leadership, direction, and technical support to maintenance technicians
Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repair priorities
Diagnose and repair diesel trucks, heavy equipment, forklifts, trailers, and production equipment
Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and drivetrains
Diagnose complex equipment failures using diagnostic software and testing equipment
Repair hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, hoses, fittings, and control systems
Diagnose and repair electrical wiring, sensors, controllers, charging systems, and electronic modules
Perform or oversee DOT inspections and ensure vehicle compliance
Perform welding, cutting, and light fabrication work
Train, mentor, and develop maintenance technicians
Coordinate with outside vendors and review completed repair work
Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs
Maintain accurate work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records
Support OSHA, DOT, environmental, and company compliance requirements
Assist with facility improvements, major repairs, and equipment installations

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Minimum 5 years of experience repairing diesel trucks, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, or similar machinery
Strong experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, brakes, steering, suspension, and drivetrains
Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently
Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and lifting devices
Basic computer skills for work orders and maintenance records
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Lead Technician or maintenance leadership experience
Experience with diesel diagnostic software
Experience with CMMS systems
Experience with construction, recycling, material-processing, or heavy equipment operations
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly
Frequent use of hands, arms, and repetitive motion
Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial equipment
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to work around noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and uneven terrain
