£85.48 per hour (Inside IR35) | Essex

Allen Lane is working with a forward-thinking Local Authority seeking an experienced Highways Lawyer to join their team on an initial 6+ month interim contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile development and regeneration projects, advising on complex highways and transportation matters within a supportive and collaborative legal team.

• £85.48 per hour (Inside IR35) or PAYE: £65 per hour

• Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in the office)
\n

The role: You will provide expert legal advice across a broad range of highways matters, including:

\n
• Advising on the Highways Act 1980 and related legislation
\n
• Drafting and negotiating agreements (S38, S278, S50 and more)
\n
• Supporting major development and regeneration schemes
\n
• Advising on Traffic Regulation Orders, public rights of way, and highway adoption
\n
• Supporting flood risk and drainage matters, including SuDS and LLFA responsibilities
\n
• Providing governance and public law advice and supporting decision-making processes
\n

About you:

\n
• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive
\n
• Minimum 2 years’ PQE with experience in highways law or related public law areas
\n
• Proven experience supporting development and regeneration projects
\n
• Strong understanding of the interaction between highways, planning, and infrastructure delivery
\n
• Collaborative, resilient, and confident communicating in a public sector environment
\n
