Job Description
My client a Central London law firm are looking for a Legal Aid Biller for 2 days a week. You will be integral in managing billing and disbursements for legal cases. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of legal billing processes.
\nDay-to-day of the role:
\n- \n
- Monitor work in progress (WIP) on files, and coordinate with cost drafts people for non-fixed fee cases, including sending files and updating the family spreadsheet. \n
- Manage fixed fee files, preparing bills using LEAP and CCMS. \n
- Review bills returned from cost drafts people, ensuring all disbursements are included, and obtain fee earner approvals. \n
- Handle both fixed and non-fixed fee disbursements, ensuring all payments are made and documented correctly in CCMS. \n
- Regularly check new certificates, diarise them, and manage periodic POAs for profit costs based on case status and previous claims. \n
- Conduct weekly BACS postings, coordinate with Accounts for disbursement payments, and ensure accurate billing on the ledger. \n
- Ensure the ledger is clear upon final bill preparation and proceed with file archiving. \n
- Manage communications with counsel regarding cost allocations on CCMS, ensuring all activities are time-recorded. \n
Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Proven experience in legal aid billing or a similar role within a legal environment. \n
- Ideally strong familiarity with legal software such as LEAP and CCMS. \n
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. \n
- Strong communication skills for interacting with fee earners, counsel, and other stakeholders. \n
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team. \n
The role will have an element of hybrid working.
