Senior Transport Planner – Development Planning

\nThe Opportunity
\nAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join a growing Development Planning team in Manchester. You'll play a key role in delivering transport planning advice across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use, education, healthcare, industrial, and regeneration projects throughout the North West and wider UK.
\nWorking alongside developers, architects, planners, and local authorities, you'll lead the preparation of technical transport documents, provide strategic advice throughout the planning process, and mentor junior members of the team. \nKey Responsibilities

- Lead the delivery of transport planning projects from inception through to planning approval. \n
- Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Delivery & Servicing Plans, Construction Logistics Plans, and other supporting transport documents. \n
- Undertake transport impact assessments and junction capacity analysis using industry-standard software. \n
- Liaise with local authorities, clients, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams throughout the planning process. \n
- Attend client meetings, design team meetings, and planning negotiations. \n
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and consultant-level transport planners. \n
- Manage project programmes, budgets, and client expectations to ensure successful project delivery. \n
- Support business development by preparing fee proposals and identifying opportunities with both existing and prospective clients. \n
- Keep up to date with transport policy, planning legislation, and industry best practice, including National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) guidance, Active Travel England requirements, and local authority transport policies across Greater Manchester and the North West. \n
About You
\nWe're looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for development planning.
\nYou'll ideally have:
\n- \n
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning, or a related discipline. \n
- Around 5+ years' experience within transport planning, with a strong focus on development planning. \n
- Experience preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans. \n
- A strong understanding of the UK planning system and relevant transport guidance, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), Manual for Streets, and local authority transport planning policies. \n
- Experience using transport modelling and junction assessment software such as Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY), LinSig, TRICS, and AutoCAD (desirable). \n
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills. \n
- Strong project management and client-facing experience. \n
- Working towards or holding Chartered status (CIHT, TPS, ICE, or equivalent) would be advantageous. \n
