Academic Tutor (private Tuition)

Functional Skills Tutor Location: Leicester Pay: £20–£30 per hour Hours: 15 hours per week Contract: Long-term TeacherActive is working with a pupil in Leicester who requires an experienced and resilient Home Tutor to provide personalised education in a home-based or alternative setting. The pupil has social, emotional and mental health needs and may display challenging behaviour. The successful Home Tutor will need to build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil while delivering engaging Functional Skills Maths and English sessions. This is a rewarding opportunity for a patient and adaptable tutor who is passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to education. The successful Home Tutor will be responsible for: Delivering 15 hours of personalised tuition each week Planning and teaching Functional Skills Maths and English Adapting lessons to meet the pupil’s individual learning needs Supporting the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies Creating a calm, consistent and structured learning environment Monitoring progress and completing relevant reports Working closely with parents, carers and other professionals The successful Home Tutor will have: Previous teaching or tutoring experience Proven experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs Confidence managing challenging behaviour Strong de-escalation and relationship-building skills A calm, patient and resilient approach Team Teach training is beneficial but not essential An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one In return, you can expect: Competitive pay of £20–£30 per hour A consistent 15-hour weekly contract Support from a dedicated education consultant Access to CPD and professional development opportunities A rewarding role where you can make a meaningful difference to a young person’s education All applicants will be contacted to discuss suitability and then invited to register with TeacherActive.
