Role Summary

An excellent opportunity for an aspiring engineer to take the next step into a regulated manufacturing environment. Working within a GMP-compliant healthcare manufacturing facility, the Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for supporting the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment through a combination of hands-on maintenance activities and technical documentation.

This role offers exposure to both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines while providing opportunities to contribute to equipment upgrades, process improvements, and operational efficiency projects. The successful candidate will be naturally curious, proactive, and motivated to identify better ways of working, whilst maintaining the high standards of compliance required within a regulated industry.

Role Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine preventative and reactive maintenance on manufacturing and production equipment.
  • \n
  • Support the troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical and electrical equipment faults to minimise downtime.
  • \n
  • Assist with equipment servicing, calibration, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • \n
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • \n
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, proposing and implementing practical engineering solutions.
  • \n
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions relating to equipment failures and operational issues.
  • \n
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure all activities are documented in accordance with GMP requirements.
  • \n
  • Develop, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and engineering documentation.
  • \n
  • Ensure audit-ready documentation and maintain a clear compliance trail for all maintenance activities and equipment changes.
  • \n
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams to support production requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • \n
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety, GMP, and company procedures at all times.
  • \n
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and operational excellence.

The position will be working late shifts on site in South London (1.30pm-10pm Monday Friday). Some flexibility to work early shifts during training is important.

Key Experience

\n

Essential

\n
    \n
  • Engineering Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • \n
  • Strong interest in engineering, manufacturing, and equipment maintenance.
  • \n
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
  • \n
  • High attention to detail with the ability to complete documentation accurately and thoroughly.
  • \n
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering environment.
  • \n
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to create and update technical documentation and SOPs.
  • \n
  • Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and undertake training.
  • \n
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm to contribute within a collaborative team environment.

Desirable

  • Previous maintenance, manufacturing, engineering, or technical experience.
  • \n
  • Exposure to GMP, pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical device, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • \n
  • Experience working with both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • \n
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance principles and fault-finding techniques.
  • \n
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement or equipment optimisation initiatives.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with compliance-driven documentation practices and audit requirements.
  • \n
