Roles & Responsibilities

\n

As a Support Mentor in an Alternative Provision setting, you will play a vital role in guiding students who require tailored educational and emotional pathways. You will:

\n

  • Work closely with session leaders to deliver impactful learning activities, ensuring resources are accessible and tailored to individual student needs.
  • \n
  • Act as a trusted, positive role model, offering a safe space for students to talk, share concerns, and feel heard.
  • \n
  • Implement trauma-informed and positive behavior support strategies to help students navigate stress, anxiety, or frustration in real-time.
  • \n
  • Keep students motivated and focused on their tasks using creative, personalized encouragement and a high level of resilience.
  • \n
  • Help young people close learning gaps while simultaneously building essential life skills, teamwork, and social confidence.
  • \n

What you’ll need:

\n
    \n
  • Previous mentor experience, youth work experience, or a strong relevant background supporting young people with complex needs (e.g., SEMH, SEND).
  • \n
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • \n
  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one).
  • \n
  • A Level 3 qualification, relevant youth work/mentoring certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience in an educational or care setting.
  • \n
