Job Description
Salary upto £60,000Location: Newport, South Wales covering projects across the regionRole purposeThe Quantity Surveyor will take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of passive fire protection projects from pre-construction through to final account. The role will support cost planning, contract administration, project reporting and commercial performance, working closely with operational teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.Key responsibilitiesManage the contractual and financial performance of multiple passive fire projects.Prepare cost plans, budgets, estimates, tender documentation and commercial reports.Prepare and submit interim applications for payment and support timely cash collection.Carry out site measurements to support valuations, variations and final accounts.Identify, price, negotiate and agree variations throughout the project lifecycle.Monitor project costs, forecasts, cash flow, risk and profitability.Prepare monthly valuations, cost-value reconciliations and final accounts.Review subcontractor quotations, place orders and manage subcontractor accounts.Negotiate with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to achieve best commercial value.Work closely with Contracts Managers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.Maintain accurate commercial records and supporting contractual documentation.Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, quality and company procedures.Project scopePassive fire stopping and penetration sealing.Fire-door replacement, remediation and inspection programmes.Compartmentation works and associated remedial construction.Fire-resistant sealing and protection systems.Social housing, education, hotel and commercial property projects.Works within occupied and live environments.Essential experience and skillsPrevious Quantity Surveying experience within construction, property services, refurbishment or fire protection.Experience managing valuations, variations, subcontractor accounts and final accounts.Strong commercial and contractual awareness.Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.Confident communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.Good numerical, analytical and reporting ability.Competence using Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.Full UK driving licence.Desirable experienceExperience within passive fire protection, fire stopping, fire doors or compartmentation.Knowledge of current building regulations and passive fire compliance requirements.Experience working across social housing or occupied buildings.A relevant Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or commercial qualification.IFE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.Experience within FIRAS, BM TRADA or IFC-accredited environments.Key relationshipsCommercial Manager and senior commercial team.Contracts Managers, Site Managers and operational teams.Clients, consultants and contract administrators.Subcontractors, suppliers and procurement colleagues.Finance, compliance and business support teams.Key measures of successProjects delivered within agreed budgets and commercial targets.Accurate and timely applications, valuations and reporting.Effective management and recovery of variations.Strong cash flow and timely final-account agreement.Commercial risks identified and controlled at an early stage.Positive working relationships with clients and operational teams.Consistent compliance with company and contractual procedures.PackageUpto £60,000 salary, depending on experience.Car allowance and fuel card for business and personal use.Performance bonus opportunity of up to 25%.31 days holiday, increasing with service.Company pension and life insurance.Enhanced family-friendly policies.Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.Professional development and further training.Additional requirementsThe role will involve regular travel to project sites, generally within the regional operating area.
