Interconnects Cable and Harness Design Engineer
Job Description
Hybrid working – 2 – 3 days on site (further travel to Stevenage required if not based there)
\nInside IR35 - £50 per hour umbrella
\n6 month contract initially – open to extension
\nOverview of Department:
\nA leading defence client has a fantastic opportunity for an Interconnects Design Engineer to work within our growing Interconnects team designing bespoke electrical interconnects / cables suitable for the transmission of power, signal and data within and between subsystems in our products, developing and designing Test Equipment solutions for the next generation of weapons.
\nResponsibilities:
\nTo do this you will need to interpret sub-system requirements and, from these, generate electrical schematics and cable design definitions on Microsoft Visio & HarnWare work packages. You will need to be able to carry out investigations into a full range of cable problems and issues; developing and preparing solutions, either individually or as a member of a project team. The role also includes support to manufacturing in order to resolve any manufacturing issues, as well as supporting functional and environmental product trials.

\nSkillset / Experience required:
\nIndividuals will need to have demonstrable experience in cable / harness / interconnects design, using relevant design packages such as Visio and HarnWare. The ideal candidate will have:

- A minimum 2 years' experience in the use of Visio and related products (Harnware). \n
- A proven ability to define, deploy, and refine processes and best practices within Visio and Harnware. – including; electrical topology, wiring schematics and 2D manufacturing drawing processes and standards. \n
- Thorough understanding of product data management and change management within Windchill or similar. \n
- The ability to design cable assemblies based upon electrical constraints such as current, screening, signal types, volt drop, EMC and environmental requirements. \n
- An appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering. \n
Due to the nature of our work, experience of military Defence Standards and a working knowledge of D38999 connectors in support of cable harness manufacture is highly desirable.

- Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant experience in Interconnects/Harness Design and Development. \n
- The ability to lead interconnects/harness design work packages and have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with the awareness and understanding of the challenges that this may bring. \n
- Excellent verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills with the capability to write clear and concise engineering documentation. \n
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to influence and negotiate with partners across the business. \n
- Experience of supplier engagement and development across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams. \n
