Job Description
SEN Learning Support Assistant Prospero Teaching is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils in the Southampton area. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop confidence, and achieve positive outcomes in school. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide tailored support to pupils with needs such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or through small‑group interventions, depending on pupil requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and making a genuine difference in education. The Role: Provide 1:1 support and small‑group interventions for pupils with SEN Support pupils during lessons, activities, and school routines Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies Help adapt learning activities to meet individual needs Encourage pupil engagement, confidence, and independence Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff Promote a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently Ideal Candidate: Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals Patient, supportive, and empathetic approach Strong communication and interpersonal skills Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils Adaptable and responsive to different needs and situations Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team Backgrounds in SEN, care, youth work, support work, or education welcomed Contract Details: Position: SEN Learning Support Assistant Location: Southampton Start Date: ASAP Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.66 per hour Key Stages: Primary / Secondary Experience, Training & Safeguarding: SEN or relevant support experience desirable Safeguarding training can be provided Understanding of SEN strategies beneficial but not essential What Prospero Teaching Offers: Free accredited CPD, including SEN & behaviour management Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant Opportunities for continued work and progression A rewarding role supporting pupils with additional needs Access to a variety of education opportunities across the local areaIf you're looking for a rewarding SEN Learning Support Assistant role in Southampton, we'd love to hear from you.
