Job Title: Telecoms Field EngineerVodafone SPEN Telecoms Network (Scotland)Location: Glasgow (Kirkintilloch) 5 days per week onsite, with travel across Scotland as required. A full UK driving licence is essential, as you'll need to travel independently between sites.Contract Length: 6 months, with an immediate start.Positions Available: 6About the RoleWe're looking for experienced Telecoms Field Engineers to support the delivery and assurance of Scottish Power's strategic telecommunications network across Scotland, including the interfaces into SSEN and National Grid telecoms networks, on behalf of Vodafone's ongoing support contract with SPEN.You'll provide a professional field engineering service covering both new installation ("provide") and ongoing support ("assure") activities, including participation in a 24x7x365 first-line response and routine maintenance rota for our key utilities customer. You'll work alongside project engineers to help deliver the outcomes expected by both the client and Vodafone, while managing risk and upholding quality and health & safety standards on both an individual and team basis.This role suits someone with solid networking fundamentals, hands-on experience across both provide and assure delivery, a proven record of successful technical project implementation, and a positive, can-do attitude.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver projects to the agreed time, cost, quality, and health & safety parameters, in line with Vodafone's project engineering standards and any additional client requirements.Complete project documentation as required by the project engineer.Monitor progress against plan and recommend corrective actions where needed.Identify issues and risks and escalate them appropriately.Provide timely, clear communication to all stakeholders.Ensure agreed technical, test and quality plans are delivered to the project engineer.Carry out all necessary project administration.Provide 1st line assure activities on a 24x7x365 basis, adhering to agreed contractual SLA targets, and report all information and updates to Vodafone's service support desk.Complete nominated routine maintenance inspection (RMI) activities as required.Recommend improvements and cost reductions where identified.Respond to and act promptly on all assigned tasks.Work effectively both as part of a team and on your own initiative.Hands-On Technical DutiesErect and secure EMC cabinets and power equipment racks (including DC chargers).Install containment (cable tray, trunking).Wire and connect DC cabling to IP and telecoms equipment.Cable and terminate IP and telecoms cables (SWA, CAT5, 10100 pair cables).Install and commission IP and telecoms equipment.Test circuits (protection services: VF, X21 & C37.94; bearers: PDH, SDH, IP LAN & WAN).Install and configure IP telephones.Install and apply configurations to Cisco/Alcatel switches and routers.Provision, transfer and cease services/circuits.Provide 1st line support and troubleshooting of IP and telecoms infrastructure on a 24x7x365 basis.Carry out routine maintenance inspections on battery chargers, optic fibre cables, pilot cables, radio systems, and update CTC records.Complete risk assessments and site surveys to enable installations.Prepare SR (standing requirements) documentation and handover documentation.What We're Looking ForCore skills, competencies and experience:Exceptional organisational skills.Demonstrable engineering installation and commissioning experience.Experience in assure/maintenance activity.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office/Teams).Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.Ability to work to applicable quality standards.Willingness to complete Scottish Power work authorisations (training provided).Experience installing networks and equipment (Commtel/SDH/PDH/Radio/Xtran).Excellent knowledge of routing, switching and data networking.IP networking experience (WAN, LAN, MPLS).Experience maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting networks and systems.Technical/professional qualifications required:Proven track record in the installation and support of DC Charger, PDH, SDH, Comtel and microwave radio technologies (DC & AC experienced).Knowledge of Cisco & Alcatel products.LAN & WAN internetworking skills.You should also be able to cover some or all of the following technical areas:Cisco IP LAN/WAN & MPLS interworking.Alcatel IP products.Avara PDH & SDH.OTN Xtran MPLS-TP.IP telephony.Radio systems Westica, Mimo Max, Cienna.Operation of IP and telecoms test equipment.Symmetricom GPS timing.Fibre testing.Pilot cable testing.Requirements, Authorisations & CertificationsEssential:Full UK driving licence, with the ability to travel independently to Kirkintilloch, Glasgow and other sites across Scotland.BPSS (standard) security clearance (or ability to obtain).SPEN authorisations WI-2, EN-1, WL-1.5, 1.8, SB-2 (training/support can be provided where noted).Emergency First Aid at Work.IOSH.EUSR.Desirable:Scottish Power authorisations, 5th Edition.National Grid authorised.NRSWA.DC/AC competent, with a current certificate.Experience working within a high-voltage environment substations from 11kV to 400kV.TPBN1_UKTJ
