Technical Designer / CAD Designer / CAD Draftsman - Bespoke Kitchens, Cabinetry & JoineryEssendine, Rutland (commutable from Stamford, Peterborough, Bourne, Grantham, Oakham, Melton Mowbray, Spalding, Corby and Market Deeping)SALARY: From £35,000, negotiable depending on experienceTechnical Designer / CAD Designer required by a well-established bespoke cabinetry and joinery manufacturer in Essendine, Rutland, within easy reach of Stamford and Peterborough. This is a permanent, office-based technical design role covering bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, wardrobes, furniture and specialist joinery, with occasional site visits.The role is being advertised at Senior Technical Designer level, but applications are genuinely welcome from an experienced CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsmen, Junior Technical Designer or Furniture designer with some design experience who want to step up. Attitude, accuracy and a genuine interest in how cabinetry is made matter more here than a job title.The company manufactures high-end bespoke kitchens and fitted furniture for premium residential projects, working alongside architects, interior designers and private clients. The Technical Designer sits at the centre of the business, turning approved concepts into fully detailed, manufacture-ready technical drawings and production information.The roleProducing detailed technical drawings for bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, wardrobes, furniture and specialist joineryConverting concept designs, survey information and client requirements into manufacture-ready technical documentationPreparing full production drawing packs including plans, elevations, sections, construction details and component schedulesProducing cutting lists, machining information, component schedules and material specificationsGenerating CNC-ready manufacturing data including nesting layouts, machining strategies and tooling specificationsCNC programming for bespoke cabinetry, furniture and joinery components, and operating CNC machinery where required to support productionMaintaining and developing CNC tooling libraries, machining templates, post-processors and manufacturing standardsReviewing site survey information, verifying dimensions and attending site visits to resolve technical queriesLiaising with builders, architects, contractors, interior designers and clients on technical requirementsPurchasing and ordering workshop materials and consumables including timber, sheet materials, veneers, paint, adhesives and hardwareWorking with the Workshop Foreman on stock levels, par levels and supplier performanceSupporting the installation teams with installation packs and site-specific technical informationManaging several projects at once and controlling drawing revisions properlyWhat you will needExperience in technical design, CAD design or draughting within bespoke kitchens, cabinetry, furniture, joinery or interior fit-outProficiency in CAD software and technical drawing packages - AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, SketchUp, Vectorworks or similarA working understanding of cabinet construction methods, joinery manufacturing techniques and workshop processesCNC programming and CNC machining experience within a cabinetry, furniture or joinery environment, or a strong willingness to develop itAn understanding of materials, finishes, hardware and manufacturing processesStrong spatial awareness, problem-solving ability and attention to detailThe organisation to manage multiple projects and deadlinesClear communication and the ability to work across design, production and installation teamsUseful, but not essentialKnowledge of premium residential construction and high-end interior projectsExperience working with architects, interior designers and high-net-worth private clientsFamiliarity with project management systems or ERP softwareUnderstanding of UK manufacturing and installation standardsWhat is on offerPermanent, full-time position with a respected bespoke cabinet making businessSalary from £35,000, negotiable depending on experienceGenuine scope to grow into a senior technical role, with mentoring available for those developing their CAD and CNC skillsVaried, high-quality bespoke projects rather than repetitive volume workModern workshop, quality-led culture and a direct line to the senior leadership teamThis role will suit candidates currently working as a Technical Designer, Senior Technical Designer, CAD Designer, CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsman, Design Technician, Kitchen Designer, Furniture Designer, Joinery Designer, Cabinet Vision Programmer, CNC Programmer or Setter Operator within bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture, cabinet making, joinery or shopfitting.TPBN1_UKTJ
