Senior Legal Counsel - Commodity Trading

I'm currently working with a leading international commodities business seeking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to join its London Trading Legal team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer looking to move closer to the commercial decision-making process, working alongside traders and commercial stakeholders within a sophisticated global trading environment.

The role will include advising on:

• Physical commodity sale and purchase transactions.

• Commodity trading agreements, offtake arrangements and related commercial documentation.

• Third-party sourcing and structured supply arrangements.

• Shipping and logistics matters associated with international trade.

• Day-to-day legal and commercial issues arising across a global trading business.

We're particularly keen to hear from lawyers who have built their careers advising commodity trading clients, whether in private practice or in-house.

You may currently be advising trading houses, mining companies, energy businesses or commodity merchants, and will ideally have experience supporting the legal issues arising from the purchase, sale and transportation of physical commodities.

The successful candidate is likely to offer:

• Around 6+ years' PQE (although strong candidates outside this range will be considered).

• Experience advising on physical commodity trading transactions.

• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.

• Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to work with minimal supervision.

• A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships with front-office stakeholders.

Shipping experience would be beneficial but is not essential. The priority is finding a lawyer with a strong grounding in physical commodity trading and the commercial mindset to thrive in a fast-paced business.
