Senior Technical Manager (Operations)
Job Description
Harris Hill is recruiting for a leading higher education and research organisation seeking an experienced Senior Technical Manager (Operations) to lead technical services across engineering and research facilities.
\nLocation: London (predominately office-based)
\nSalary: £53,947 – £63,350 per annum (including London Allowance)
\nThis role will provide strategic and operational leadership for laboratories, workshops and technical teams, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality support for teaching, research and innovation. You will work closely with academic and professional services colleagues to improve services, develop people and support future growth.
\nKey responsibilities include:

- Leading and managing technical teams across research, education and operational functions. \n
- Overseeing laboratory and workshop facilities to ensure effective technical support. \n
- Managing resources, budgets, procurement and operational planning. \n
- Developing service improvements, policies and processes. \n
- Supporting workforce and facilities planning. \n
- Ensuring high standards of health and safety, compliance and risk management. \n
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. \n
About you
\nYou will be an experienced technical leader with a background in managing technical services within an engineering, scientific or similar environment. You will have experience leading teams, managing complex facilities and delivering operational improvements.
\nYou will bring:

- Experience managing technical teams, including workforce planning and performance management. \n
- Knowledge of laboratory, workshop or specialist facility management. \n
- Strong technical understanding of engineering and/or scientific disciplines. \n
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences. \n
- Experience in strategic planning, resource management and service improvement. \n
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills. \n
A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience is required. Health and safety qualifications (such as NEBOSH/IOSH) or professional registration (such as CEng) would be advantageous.
